Solid tool, minor quirks

I signed up for Trainual's employee onboarding platform and it's been mostly positive. The company wiki feature was super helpful for documenting our processes. Setting up the initial content was pretty straightforward, but I found the search function within the platform could be a bit clunky sometimes. Overall, it's a good value, especially with the annual billing discount. Support was responsive when I had a question about integrating a specific document type.

Detailed review of platform

I recently adopted Trainual for our small business to consolidate our operations documentation and manage employee training. The initial setup process was quite intuitive; I uploaded our existing HR policies and created several new procedures using their content library as a guide. It took about a week to get most of our core processes documented. The screen recording tool was a nice touch for demonstrating software usage. Delivery of the service itself is instant, naturally, as it's SaaS. I did find the mobile app a bit less robust than the desktop version, particularly for content creation, but it's fine for viewing. The role-based training feature has been invaluable for tailoring learning paths. Their support team answered my questions about data export capabilities promptly. It's definitely helped streamline our onboarding.

Good for onboarding

Used Trainual for our new hires. It worked well for getting them up to speed quickly. Simple to create guides. Saved us time.

Transformed our training!

Trainual is amazing! We used the Training Manual Creator and it made such a difference for our team. The interface was super easy to navigate, and setting up all our standard operating procedures was a breeze. I loved how we could assign specific roles for different training modules. Our new employees are getting up to speed faster than ever now. I'm telling everyone about this tool!

considering this for our small business, how many users can you usually get on a basic plan? don't want to get hit with huge overage fees.

B Beth Whitfield 3 weeks ago
It depends on the plan tier, they have different levels. You can add more users but it costs extra per person. You can see the breakdown on their pricing page, it's pretty clear.

i think the base plans start with a certain number included, then it's an add-on cost per head. they'll show you exactly how much before you commit to anything.

Thinking of signing up for the free trial, but then what? Is it pretty easy to get a discount after that or should I wait for a sale?

T Todd 1 month ago
usually if you sign up for the annual plan you get a discount automatically, something like 20% off. not sure about after the trial ends though.

They don't do promo codes much from what I've seen. Best bet is the annual discount, or if you're a non-profit or startup, they have special pricing for those. Otherwise, maybe around Black Friday/Cyber Monday is your only real shot for a bigger sale.

Does anyone know if they offer a money-back guarantee? What if we try it for a month and it's just not working for our team?

D Dan Patel 1 month ago
I don't think they do. I remember looking for that and didn't see anything about a money-back guarantee. Just the free trial.

Nah, pretty sure it's just the trial. You can cancel your subscription anytime though, so you're not locked into a full year if monthly isn't working out.

How long does it take to actually set this up? We're a small team and don't have a ton of time to dedicate to building out a whole system from scratch.

They have templates which helps a lot. It's not instant magic, but way faster than starting from a blank page. You can get a basic setup going pretty quick.

Honestly, depends on how much content you have. If you're starting fresh, it'll take a bit to write everything. But the platform itself is fairly intuitive to navigate and get stuff organized.

how does this compare to something like notion? is it basically the same thing for documenting stuff?

M Mia M. 3 weeks ago
Notion is more general purpose, like a super flexible workspace. Trainual is specifically for training and SOPs. So it's more structured for that exact purpose.

S Sarah G. 2 weeks ago
Yeah, if you're really focused on employee training and onboarding, Trainual's built for that. Notion can DO it, but you'd have to set up a lot of the structure yourself. Trainual has it ready to go.

Is it easy to get your data out of Trainual if you decide to switch platforms later? I'm worried about vendor lock-in.

M Mark P. 1 month ago
Yep, you can export your content. Not sure if it's like a perfect mirror image to another platform, but you definitely won't lose your work.

My company switched from them a while back and we were able to get all our documents and processes exported as files. It wasn't a nightmare, so you're good there.
